My New York City Rules
I’ve lived in NYC for 10 years now, and I’ve learned a few valuable things I thought I’d pass on to you. Here they are, in order of importance, of course!
1. Always use the bathroom before leaving a restaurant (or a friend’s apartment or your office for that matter).
2. Never stand near a garbage can on the subway platform (people like to play basketball in this town, and they’re not always NBA quality).
3. If it’s below 45 degrees, wear gloves and a scarf.
4. If it’s below 35 degrees, don’t leave home without long johns (I prefer silk ones, myself).
5. Befriend a good podiatrist and own multiple pairs of comfortable shoes (For women, I recommend wearing heels no higher than 2-1/2” inches more than one day per week.)
6. Suffering sucks (I borrowed this from my old friend, flutist Peter Schultz).
7. In the summer, always have a scarf or a sweater with you. It’s freezing in air conditioning.
I’m still working on this list… but these are very, very important for survival in this crazy town. Let me know if you have some ideas to add. We’re all in this together! Real estate deserves it’s own posting all together.
